About Us
Sonrise exists to be a community of believers committed to glorifying God in all we do and say, by serving one another, and reaching out to the world in love.
History
Sonrise Christian Fellowship began as a weekly Bible Study during the summer of 1983. By the fall of that year this small group of believers committed to the authoritative teaching of the Bible began to meet for worship at Kingston Elementary School on the Mesa.
In 1985 Pastor Angel Suarez a graduate of Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary became their first full-time pastor. During Angel’s time of service the community of Hesperia grew and so did the church. In March of 1990 the church moved into its current facilities.
In 1996 Pastor George Rubio, a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary was called to be associate pastor of our growing congregation.
In August of 1999 The church changed its name from Evangelical Free Church of the Mesa to its current name, Sonrise Christian Fellowship.
In September 2002, Pastor Angel left Sonrise and moved to Arizona with his family. Pastor George served as interim pastor for one year and was called to be the senior pastor in September 2003.
In August 2007 the church called Steve Zimmer, a graduate of Phoenix Seminary, as their interim pastor. In February of 2008 Steve was called to be the senior pastor.
Last year we celebrate our 25th year in the High Desert. 25 years of God's grace and mercy and 25 years of ministry not only in Hesperia but throughout the world because our God is Faithful.
