About Us

Hesperia EFC exists as a community of believers committed to glorifying God in all we do and say, by serving one another, and reaching out to the world in love.

Hesperia Evangelical Free Church is located on the Mesa in Hesperia and welcomes individuals and families from Oak Hills, Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, and wherever else you may hail from.

We are affiliated with, and hold to the doctrinal statement of the The Evangelical Free Church of America which is a Bible believing association. Click here for a copy of our doctrinal statement. We trust you will find in Hesperia EFC a home in which to grow, serve, and worship God together with brothers and sisters in Christ.

History

We began as a weekly Bible Study during the summer of 1983. By the fall of that year this small group of believers committed to the authoritative teaching of the Bible began to meet for worship at Kingston Elementary School on the Mesa.

In 1985 Pastor Angel Suarez a graduate of Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary became their first full-time pastor. During Angel’s time of service the community of Hesperia grew and so did the church. In March of 1990 the church moved into its current facilities.

In 1996 Pastor George Rubio, a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary was called to be associate pastor of our growing congregation.

In August of 1999 the church changed its name from Evangelical Free Church of the Mesa to Sonrise Christian Fellowship.

In September 2002, Pastor Angel left Sonrise and moved to Arizona with his family. Pastor George served as interim pastor for one year and was called to be the senior pastor in September 2003.

In June of 2007 George stepped down from ministry and in August the church called Steve Zimmer, a graduate of Phoenix Seminary, as their interim pastor. In February of 2008 Steve was called to be the senior pastor.

Also in October of 2008 we celebrated our 25th year in the High Desert. Twenty five years of God's grace and mercy and twenty five years of ministry not only in Hesperia but throughout the world because our God is Faithful.

In February 2010, we changed our name back to something that reflects exactly who and where we are. Hesperia Evangelical Free Church.
